Program Overview

The curriculum of this program covers a variety of subjects, topics, and hands-on applications in a methodical and progressive fashion, designed to familiarize the trainee with the types of construction also environmental and safety hazards that he or she might encounter. All eligible clients will attend class at Dawson Technical Insitute.

All training sessions will include theory and practical exercises.

INSTRUCTION WILL BE GIVEN IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:

  • INTRODUCTORY CONSTRUCTION MATH – includes basic terminology, formulas, methodology, and learning how to apply them in actual work situations.
  • INTRODUCTORY CARPENTRY MATERIALS & APPLICATION – explores the basic materials and tools used by carpenters, with hands-on demonstration and discussions and select topics
  • BASIC BLUEPRINT READING – examines the elements contained in blueprints and how to read them.
  • OSHA 10HR & SCAFFOLD SAFETY– Investigates safety procedures, equipment, and their impact upon the workplace.
  • INTRODUCTION TO CEMENT MASONRY- explores the basic materials and tools used by cement masons, with hands-on demonstration and discussions and select topics.
  • BASIC COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY – Students will learn to identify components, demonstrate operating procedures and explain the differences among the various software programs.
  • RESUME WRITING (WORKSHOP) – Students will demonstrate the ability to create a resume and demonstrate proper job interviewing techniques.
